Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said on Wednesday that the Bangladesh Awami League has been able to successfully maintain its popularity despite being in power for a long time.
“While being in power for a long time, very few parties or men can maintain popularity or work continuously for the welfare of the people, but Awami League has been able to do so. We have proved it,” she said.
The premier said this when leaders of the AL and its affiliate bodies congratulated him on the occasion of his 43rd homecoming at the Gana Bhavan.
On 17 May 1981, AL President Sheikh Hasina returned home from India after nearly six years in exile following the brutal assassination of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and most of his family members by some errant army officers on 15 August 1975.
