Narayanganj MP Ghulam D Golam Dastagir Ghazi is the president of Rupganj Upazila Awami League. His wife Hasina Ghazi is the mayor of Tarabo Paurshwa (municipality) and a member of the Upazila Awami League. His son has become the chairman candidate from Rupganj upazila.
According to Awami League sources, the party had participated in the last upazila elections in 2019 with the party symbol. However, at that time 59 MPs and ministers were accused of working for rivals of the party's nominated candidates in the elections. The party decided to take action against him. However, in the end nothing happened. Former mayor of Ghazipur city Jahangir Alam was expelled from the party twice. But, both times he was successful in returning to the party.
