Azhar Zafar Shah, a former Dhaka University teacher who was thrashed by a mob after a fatal car crash on campus six weeks ago, has died in prison custody.
Inspector Bachchu Miya at the hospital’s police post said jail officials brought him from Dhaka Central Jail in Keraniganj to Dhaka Medical College Hospital on Friday afternoon, but doctors declared him brought dead.
Rubina Akhtar, a 40-year-old woman, who was going to her brother’s house on her brother-in-law’s motorcycle, was hit by a car and got trapped under it.
Azhar, who was driving, did not stop as passers-by and motorcyclists started shouting in unsuccessful attempts to stop him.
