Eyewitnesses said that outsiders were seen gathering at various places of the association building since Thursday evening. Many candidates also objected to the discrepancy in voting, however, as the sorting of ballots ended after 2:00 pm on Friday, but many candidates disagreed on when the vote counting should begin. Secretary candidate Naheed Sultana and Ruhul Quddus of the Blue Panel agreed to count the ballot papers at night, while Shah Manzoorul Haq of the White Panel and several other candidates said the counting should take place during the day. Eventually, their disagreement led to scuffles and fighting.
At one stage, the election conduct sub-committee announced that the ballot papers were sealed and counting would take place on Friday afternoon, which was protested by several candidates. Early on Friday, when a lawyer tried to open the door of the auditorium, the sub-committee member objected and a heated argument broke out between them. At one point, several people entered the auditorium from outside and attacked subcommittee member and Assistant Attorney General SR Siddiqui. They also beat up several other lawyers, leaving them injured. However, police reached the spot and controlled the situation. Prothom Alo also obtained a video of him attacking the lawyers.
SR Siddiqui said that he was attacked and accused of being a supporter of a certain candidate.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh Democratic Lawyers Association condemned the attack during SCBA elections and demanded a judicial inquiry into the incident.
