Bangladesh Army will supervise approach road project of much hyped Padma bridge. They will also supervise two service areas of the bridge project. Prime minister Sheikh Hasina is expected to inaugurate the construction work after the Eid.
The contract between army and communication ministry is signed at Setu Bhaban today. Project director Shafiqul Islam and Maj Gen Abu Syeed Md. Masud signed the contract in presence of communication minister and army chief. The army chief thanked government for keeping confidence on it. Bangladesh army has implemented several construction projects including flyover, road and temple building in recent years.
This is a three year contract and army will supervise the project in association with Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC) and Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET).
Earlier World Bank and three other international financial institutes refused to finance the project alleging corruption. Then the government decided to go with its own resource.
