He said corruption is a parasite that eats up a society’s resources and saps its strength and can ravage business and every level of government.
“Sadly, there have been some notorious scandals in my own country,” said the US ambassador.
Still, he said, exposing corruption and holding criminals accountable has spurred economic growth in the United States and elsewhere.
He said, “When societies make efforts like this, they prosper. I believe this can happen here in Bangladesh, and the United States is eager to help.”
He said that under President Biden, the US government has established the fight against corruption as a key national security interest.
“We support initiatives that help Bangladeshi businesses meet international standards and regulations, making them more competitive in the global market,” the envoy said.
“By promoting ethical business practices, we can create a more level playing field for businesses of all sizes and encourage more foreign investment,” he added.
