In the second instance, police entered the compound late at night and tried to evict worshipers using stun grenades and firing rubber bullets, said employees of the Waqf, the Waqf, the Jordanian-appointed Islamic organization that manages the compound.
Witnesses said that worshipers threw objects at the police. The Palestinian Red Crescent said six people were injured.
Police said in a statement that dozens of youths entered the mosque carrying stones and firecrackers and tried to force themselves inside. However, the Waqf said that the police entered the mosque even before the prayers were over.
