A three match one day series between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka was scheduled on Sri Lankan soil after the one day world cup. But cricket board president Nazmul Hassan has confirmed that Bangladesh cricket team has canceled the tour. Security concern is the only reason behind the decision. In the recent New Zealand incident where a Christian fundamentalist and white supremacist brutally killed 51 people in two mosques, Bangladesh cricket team narrowly escaped the massacre. At that time cricket board president said, usually Bangladesh team don’t get the type of security in westernized countries which they offer in Bangladeshi soil. Now they are taking security issue seriously.
After the Easter Sunday attack allegedly by Muslim fundamentalist group where hundreds of people were died, security is a renewed concern for the island country Sri Lanka. Even country’s president himself said, there is possibility of more attacks. Bangladeshi cricket officials are saying, perhaps other teams would also want to avoid Sri Lanka tour this time. Bangladeshi cricket board president said, Bangladesh will visit Sri Lanka when situation calms down.
