In response, Miller said, “Therefore, we are concerned by the arrests of thousands of political opposition members and reports of irregularities on election day. We share the view with other observers that these elections were not free and fair. We regret That all parties did not participate and that we condemn the violence that occurred during and in the months leading up to the election. We are now encouraging the Government of Bangladesh to conduct credible and transparent investigations into reports of violence, and hold perpetrators accountable , and we urge all parties to reject political violence.”

Another question asked, “So, when you say the election results in Bangladesh were not credible, free or fair, does that mean the US will not recognize Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s fourth consecutive term?” Miller responded, “No, no.”
