Bangladeshi fishermen were dependant on Thailand made fishing trawlers for fishing on deep sea. But now some Bangladeshi dockyards have started to make large and modern fishing trawlers. Dhaka dockyard made the first fishing trawler, and then Western Marine Shipyard and FMC Dockyard have joined them. FMC dockyard has floated their first fishing trawler on sea few days ago. The trawler named FB CML Labiba is made for Apon Import Center of Dhaka.
This trawler is capable to continue its operation in bad weather, can move with less fuel consumption and detect fish within three kilometer range. Its operating and maintenance cost is also low.
FMC dockyard is making four more fishing trawlers now and they are expecting three more work orders soon. Bangladesh’s dependence on imported fishing trawlers is declining as local entrepreneurs have started manufacturing it locally and creating employment for many Bangladeshis.
