Mild cold wave was prevailing in Naugaon, Dinajpur, Panchgarh, Jashore and Chuadanga districts, but the north wind made conditions worse for the people, especially the working class.
Sufia Khatoon, a 58-year-old beggar in Faridpur, collects 150 to 200 taka a day and this amount increases on Fridays, public holidays and special prayer days for Muslims. “But I could not visit many houses today amid the cold wind. If I can reach home soon, my life will be saved.”
Mukul Roy, a 40-year-old farm laborer from Neelphamari, said: “I cannot work in the field because of the cold. It is difficult to maintain our family without income.”
