Bangladesh and Malaysia have agreed to explore the possibility of concluding a bilateral Free Trade Agreement (FTA) to add more substance to the ever-growing bilateral trade and economic ties between the two regional countries.
The issue was discussed at the third Foreign Office Consultations (FOC) between Bangladesh and Malaysia held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Dhaka on Wednesday.
Foreign Secretary Masood bin Momen led the Bangladesh delegation, while the five-member Malaysian delegation was led by Norman Muhammad, Deputy Secretary-General of Malaysia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Describing Malaysia as an important investor country in Bangladesh, the Foreign Secretary encouraged greater inflow of FDI from Malaysia, especially in the economic sectors of Bangladesh, for mutual benefit.
Entire gamut of bilateral relations including cooperation in the areas of trade and commerce, investment, energy, halal trade, tourism and culture, education, health, defense and security, agriculture, fisheries and livestock, ICT and telecommunication, shipping etc. came to discuss.
