The 11th National Assembly is going to start the first parliamentary session of the new year on Thursday.

According to the Parliament Secretariat, the session presided over by Speaker Shireen Sharmin Chowdhary will begin at 4 pm.

In line with constitutional norms, President Abdul Hamid will deliver his last speech as President in the first session of the year. Later, a motion of thanks will be moved on the speech of the Head of State, which will be the focus of discussion for most of the session.

The constitution limits the number of presidential terms to two, meaning Hamid’s nine-year term as head of state will end in April. Hamid was sworn in as the 20th President of Bangladesh on 24 April 2013. On February 7, 2018, he was elected as the President unopposed for a second term.
