Bangladesh-US trade deal on February 9; Commerce Advisor, Secretary are not appearing in person

Meanwhile, the Commerce Advisor and Commerce Secretary left Dhaka for Japan at around 1:45 pm today. The signing of the Bangladesh-Japan Economic Partnership Agreement (BJEPA) is scheduled to take place in Tokyo tomorrow, Friday. They are traveling to Tokyo to participate in the three-day event from February 4 to 6.

Apart from the commerce advisor and commerce secretary, four other officials are part of the delegation for the Japan programme, the government order said.

They are Ayesha Akhtar, additional secretary and head of the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) wing of the commerce ministry; Joint Secretary Firoz Uddin Ahmed; Deputy Secretary Mehbooba Khatoon Meenu; and Senior Assistant Secretary Mohammad Haseeb Government.

Except the advisor and the secretary, these four officials have been in Tokyo for the last two days. He is expected to return to Dhaka on or around February 7.
