The BRICS grouping is not being expanded at the Johannesburg summit due to differences among club members.
The summit is scheduled to take place on August 22-24.
As a result, interested countries including Bangladesh – Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa – will have to wait to join the club.
The alliance was keen to expand the five-nation club last year. In this context, at least 23 countries including Bangladesh have expressed their desire to join BRICS.
However, India and Brazil do not want the forum to be anti-Western.
BRICS, an economic alliance of five countries, started its journey in 2006.
India and Brazil are not interested.
China was very interested in the expansion of BRICS. It is understood that China wants to make BRICS an anti-Western forum.
Diplomatic sources said, though China and Russia have agreed to expand BRICS, India and Brazil do not.
