Bangladesh wants to send back Myanmar army and BGP members by air: Rakhine conflict update

Discussions are likely to be held in Naypyidaw, the administrative capital of Myanmar on Wednesday.

Fighting between Myanmar government forces and rebel groups has intensified for several days in the Myanmar-Bangladesh border areas. A mortar fired from across the border landed in Ghumdhum in Naikhongchari upazila of Bandarban on Monday, killing two people in Bangladesh territory.

After this, Bangladesh Foreign Ministry summoned Myanmar Ambassador Aung Kyaw Moe on Tuesday morning to protest against this incident. A protest letter submitted to him at that time said that no fighter aircraft of the Myanmar Air Force should enter Bangladesh airspace.

They were also told that Bangladesh would not accept any more displaced persons from Rakhine State. Director General of the Ministry of External Affairs (Myanmar Wing) Mia Mohammad Mainul Kabir handed over the protest letter to the Myanmar Ambassador.
