According to Office Secretary Biplab Baruah, Kadar proposed Shahabuddin for the post of head of state and his nomination was supported by Hasan Mahmood, joint general secretary of the Awami League.
After submitting the application, Kader spoke to the media and said that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the party’s president and head of government, nominated Shahabuddin.
Despite repeated requests for comment by the presidential candidate, Shahabuddin said only: “Everything is by the will of Allah.”
