Banya Mirza,the popular TV actress, is returning on stage after a break of four years. She is to play a role in the “Dorponey Shorothshoshhir,” produced by Desh theatre troupe.
The play will be staged today and tomorrow at 6pm at the National Theatre Hall of the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy.
Banya has worked with Desh for the last twenty-two years and, despite being busy for TV productions, she always makes time for the stage. She last performed in “Dorponey Shorothshoshhir” four years ago.
“Dorponey Shorothshoshhir,” written by Monoj Mitra and directed by Aly Zaker, is set a century ago.
It showcases the passion of a landlord’s son for theatre and addressed the difficulties in staging a play that people of that time had to face.
Banya plays the protagonist, Shorothshoshhir, who encourages young women to work in the theatre. For here, the work takes on a sacred meaning.
Also, the production describes how theatre is a traditional art forms in which women have always made an immense contribution.
