Bauls pour into Kushtia

Bauls from across the country and abroad have thronged Lalon Akhra in Chheuria, Kushtia as a five-day programme to mark the 121st death anniversary of Lalon will begin Sunday evening.

The programme includes a ‘Lalon Mela’, discussion and rendition of songs by artistes of Lalon Academy and Bauls from across the country.

Abdul Karim Shah, a veteran Baul who won the Ekushey Padak, is expected to inaugurate the programme at 7:00pm.

Mahbubul Alam Hanif, special assistant of the Prime Minister, is likely to address the gathering as chief guest on the first day.

Other guests at the programme include State Minister for Information and Cultural Affairs, Advocate Promod Mankin and State Minister for Housing and Public Works, Advocate Abdul Mannan.

Banamali Bhoumik, Deputy Commissioner of Kushtia, will preside over the programme.

Lalon Academy, an organisation consisting of elected people to oversee Lalon’s shrine, is holding the programme in association with the Ministry of Cultural Affairs.

Kushtia district administration is supervising the event.

Banglalink is the sponsor of the programme.
