Bangladesh Computer Samity (BCS) will officially launch an exclusive laptop market at Eastern Plus shopping complex in the city’s Shantinagar area Thursday.
The apex ICT body will also hold a nine-day computer fair at the dedicated market to introduce new technologies to the people, BCS officials told journalists at a press conference at its office Wednesday.
BCS president Mostafa Jabbar delivered the welcome speech at the press conference while Nazmul Alam Bhuiyan, convener of the fair, focused on special features about the new laptop market in his written speech.
Vice-president Kazi Ashraful Alam, General Secretary Mujibur Rahman Swapan, Directors– Yusuf Ali Shamim and Shahid-Ul-Munir, of BCS, among others, were also present.
The ‘Eastern Plus-BCS Laptop Bazar’ will consist of a total of 74 shops in 10,000 square feet area of a floor of the market, where a wide range of laptops, tablet PCs, smart phones and computer accessories will be on the display.
All the shops are owned by the BCS members, which will give them a better management and service compared to the rented shops in other markets of the city, the organisers claimed.
Laptop lovers will also have online access to the laptop bazaar to check out new models, their features and prices. For doing so, they have to log on to www.bcslaptopbazar.com.
A total of 52 ICT companies will take part in the fair, marking the opeing of the laptop market. Gift hampers and discounts will be offered during the fair.
The fair will remain open from 10:00am to 8:00pm everyday with an entry fee of 10 taka. But students will not require any entry fee. ICT seminars, quiz contests will be held along with cultural programmes on the sidelines of the fair.
A painting competition will also be held on the closing day, October 21, among children divided into three groups depending on their ages.
The venue will be turned into a Wi-Fi zone to serve visitors a hassle-free internet. There will also be free internet usage facility by Banglalion, the platinum sponsor of the fair.
