Beyonce breaks all-time Grammy wins record as she battles for Best Album award

Puerto Rican rapper Bad Bunny opened the show with a soulful Spanish-language medley surrounded by dozens of dancers.

“Every time I listen to him, I get hips I never knew existed,” joked host Trevor Noah.

Bad Bunny won the award for Best Urban Music Album for “Un Verano Sin Ti”.

“I want to dedicate this award to Puerto Rico, the birthplace of reggaeton,” Bad Bunny said in a mixture of English and Spanish.

For Best Rap Album, Kendrick Lamar won with “Mr. Morale and the Big Steppers”.

Lamar said on stage, “I finally found the imperfection on this album.”

The show was broadcast live on the CBS network and on the streaming service Paramount+.

The honorees were chosen by the nearly 11,000 members of the Recording Academy, which has faced complaints that it has not given due recognition to Black talent. The organization has worked to diversify its membership in recent years.

In the Best New Artist category, contenders include Italian rock band Menskin, jazz artist Samara Joy, American bluegrass singer Molly Tuttle and TikTok’s Phenol Gayle, who rose to fame with “abcdefu”.

A 10-minute version of Taylor Swift’s 2012 song “All Too Well” won Best Music Video. His latest album, “Midnights,” was released after this year’s eligibility period, which ran from October 2021 to September 2022.

Like other award shows, the Grammys have seen their television viewership decline in recent years. Last year’s ceremony drew nearly 9 million spectators, the second-smallest on record.
