The “Haats and Bazaars (Establishment and Takeover) Ordinance, 1959,” which had no provision for fines, has been revised and amended to draft.

The bill states that any attempt to illegally occupy or establish an establishment on government market land will be punishable by a fine of Taka 500,000 or one year in prison, or both.

The draft gives special powers to judicial magistrates to award punishment.
