Minister of State for Public Administration Abdul Bari tabled both the bills separately in Parliament for passing. No amendment motion was raised for any bill and as a result, no discussion took place.
The ‘Government Services (Amendment) Bill’ and the ‘Bill to fix the maximum age limit for direct recruitment in Government, autonomous, statutory public authorities and public non-financial corporations’ were passed by voice vote.
The entire process took about eight minutes and opposition members were seen raising neither ‘yes’ nor ‘no’ votes.
Members of Parliament were informed about the introduction of both the bills through the supplementary agenda.
Raising the point of order, opposition leader Shafiqur Rehman said that many bills have been brought under the supplementary agenda. The special committee had submitted its report on 133 ordinances, some of which were repealed. These were important and linked to the spirit of the July (movement), and the opposition wanted to discuss them in Parliament.
In response, Law Minister Asaduzzaman initially said that the two bills were not part of the 133 ordinances, but later corrected himself, saying that they were indeed included.
