However, the police have not said anything about the number of BNP people arrested. Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) spokesperson Faruk Hossain told Prothom Alo that the police were not arresting BNP people in view of the party’s October 28 rally. Only those BNP leaders and workers against whom there are cases and arrest warrants are being arrested.
Earlier in the morning, Rajib Al Masood, deputy commissioner of DMP’s detective branch (DB) Motijheel division, confirmed to Prothom Alo that Khairul Kabir had been arrested.
The party has alleged that with the October 28 rally approaching, BNP leaders and workers are being picked up across the country. The party said that 16 BNP people were detained by the police in Thakurgaon on Wednesday night. The other seven were detained in Tangail and Narayanganj districts.
