BNP considers permission for rally in Suhrawardy Garden a ‘trap’

The reason party leaders are citing for this is that so far the BNP has held eight divisional rallies, except in Kumeela, despite severe obstruction from the ruling party. A transport strike call has already been given ahead of the BNP rally in Rajshahi on 3 December. At the same time, BNP policymakers have been alleging that new “fictitious cases” are being filed against party leaders and activists there. In this context, by bringing the BCL convention two days ahead of schedule, AL may be setting a trap for BNP on the pretext of leniency.

The 10 Maharallies of BNP at the Mandal level will end with the Dhaka Rally on 10th December. The BNP filed a written application on 13 November to the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) authorities seeking permission for the rally. Amidst various debates, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan on Thursday said that the BNP would be allowed to hold a rally at Suhrawardy Udyan under certain conditions. Party sources said the BNP, however, had not applied for Suhrawardy Udyan.

When the government’s proposal to the BNP to hold the rally at Suhrawardy Udyan was published in the media, several party leaders objected, saying that the BCL convention would be held on 8, 9 December. Then how will BNP build its platform and organize a rally there?

Following this, AL General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Kader said on Sunday that the BCL convention would be held on December 6 on the instructions of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina as BNP was making excuses, how would they organize their rally on December 10? BCL’s rally at the venue is on 8th December.
