Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader said on Tuesday that the BNP has not been able to launch a mass movement in the country, leave alone a mass uprising.
“There is no participation of common people in the BNP movement. Their movement is limited to the leaders,” he said.
Road Transport and Bridges Minister Kader made the remarks while talking to reporters after paying homage to Martyr Matiur Rehman Mallick, who was killed in the 1969 People’s Uprising.
On behalf of the Awami League, Kader laid a wreath at Malik’s altar set up on the premises of Bakshibazar Navkumar Institution and Dr Shahidullah College in the capital to mark the historic ‘Mass Uprising Day’.
In the history of this land, there was a genuine mass upsurge in 1969, whereas the movement of the 90s was a mass movement, he said.
Criticizing the BNP, the AL general secretary said that though the leaders of the BNP were talking of a mass insurgency, they (BNP) failed to create a mass movement.
