His brother Aslam Hussain identified the attackers as loyalists of the ruling Awami League. He named one of them as Rashidul Islam alias Koyal.
Awami League district unit general secretary Shariful Islam said no member of his party opened fire. It is possible that someone may have done this to tarnish the image of Awami League.
Inspector Abul Kalam Azad of Natore Sadar police station said he had heard about the firing but did not have detailed information as no one had filed any complaint regarding the incident.
