BNP Standing Committee member Khandkar Musharraf Hussain said on Wednesday that the present Awami League government should be removed to restore democracy and fulfill the dreams of the martyred intellectuals.

“Even after 51 years of the country’s independence, we could not implement the real spirit of freedom fighters and intellectuals who were martyred,” he said.

Speaking at a discussion, the BNP leader said that the main spirit of the liberation struggle was to establish democracy, justice and equality.

Martyred intellectuals gave us freedom by sacrificing their lives. We have to realize the dreams of the freedom fighters and martyred intellectuals and the spirit of the liberation struggle. To make those dreams come true, this government has to be removed. We, the people of the entire country, are ready to overthrow the regime,” he said.

BNP organized a program at National Press Club on the occasion of Martyr Intellectuals Day.

Musharraf, a member of the BNP’s Standing Committee, said the Awami League has been in power for 14 years without the mandate of the people.
