This BNP leader was released from Dhaka Central Jail in Keraniganj on February 19 after spending three and a half months in jail. Police arrested Mirza Abbas on October 31, ahead of the 12th Jatiya Sangsad (National Parliament) elections.

Describing his experience in jail, Mirza Abbas said, “We were worried about the medical treatment. We repeatedly warned them that Fakhrul Saheb (BNP General Secretary Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir) is old, I too am getting old. We were suffering from various diseases.” There are health complications and problems one may have to face. Bring us expert doctors or let us go. They said, 'Sir, we are forbidden to do so.' In other words, they will let us rot and die in jail, but will not give us medical treatment.”
