BNP leaders Mirza Fakhrul, Abbas released on bail in violent protest case

BNP general secretary Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and standing committee member Mirza Abbas have been released on bail a month after their arrest in connection with the violent protests.

BNP leaders and workers greeted him on his exit from Dhaka Central Jail in Keraniganj on Monday.

During their 10 December rally in Dhaka, BNP workers clashed with police in front of their party headquarters in Naya Paltan on 7 December. One person died and several others were injured in the violence.

Police then raided the BNP offices and arrested several leaders and workers, including senior joint general secretary Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, Dhaka Metropolitan North coordinator Aman Ullah Aman and special aide to the party chief Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas.
