The central office of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) in Dhaka has been locked for a month and the party’s district offices are also locked in most of the districts. No one knows when the party offices will open or when the party leaders and workers will start gathering there.
After speaking to BNP leaders and visiting party offices in 64 districts over the past two days, Prothom Alo learned that BNP offices are closed in 56 districts, while party offices are open in four districts and there are no offices in four districts. Not there.
BNP leaders and workers said that police patrol the party office areas and intelligence agencies remain active. The fear of arrest is prevalent among party leaders and workers, forcing them to hide. As a result, party offices are not open.
BNP has 82 organizational districts, including 64 districts. There are city and district unit offices in divisional towns. The larger districts are organizationally divided into South and North units.
It has been learned that the offices of 72 out of 80 organizational units are closed. The offices of the district and town units are located in the same building or office in some places, while four districts have no offices.
BNP offices in Thakurgaon, Panchgarh, Kushtia and Meherpur were found open, but attendance of party leaders and workers was thin, and district leaders said they did not go to party offices for fear of being arrested.
