The situation was already tense on the question of permission for BNP’s mass rally in Naya Paltan, Dhaka. Many government ministers and police officers were saying for the last three days that BNP will not be allowed to hold the rally in Naya Paltan.
However, on Wednesday afternoon some police officers changed their tone and gave positive indications on the issue. Later, at around 9:00 pm on Friday night, police allowed the ruling party and the opposition to hold rallies at the southern gate of Baitul Mukarram National Mosque and Naya Paltan respectively. However, Jamaat-e-Islami was not allowed to hold the rally in Dhaka.
