BNP stages demo at Naya Paltan protesting verdict against Tarique, Zubaida

Hundreds of BNP leaders and workers are protesting in front of its Naya Paltan central office to protest against a trial court’s verdict against the party’s acting president Tariq Rehman and his wife Zubaida Rehman in a corruption case.

Amid heavy presence of law enforcers, BNP leaders and workers started gathering in the area from 1:00 pm on Wednesday.

As soon as the court pronounced the verdict, BNP followers took out a procession from Naya Paltan towards Nightingale crossing along with senior leaders of the party including its vice president Barkatullah Bulu, advisor to the chairperson Amanullah Aman, Abdus Salam and senior joint general secretary Ruhul Kabir Rizvi . Around 4:05 in the evening.

They are raising slogans that they do not accept ‘Sheikh Hasina’s decision’.

Meanwhile, in a corruption case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission in 2007, Tariq was sentenced to nine years imprisonment and Zubaida Rehman to three years.
