Boat dominance in Pabna-5 elections: Awami League candidate’s campaign faces no challenge

Campaign posters of Awami League nominated candidate Golam Farooq Khandakar Prince from Pabna-5 (Sadar) constituency have been put up in the city and he has been campaigning every day, while none of his rivals have been seen campaigning.

Golam Farooq is the outgoing MLA and president of Pabna district unit of Awami League. There are four more rivals in the upcoming elections and they exist only on paper. These candidates are; Abdul Kader Khan of Jatiya Party, Mohammad Zakir Hossain of Workers’ Party of Bangladesh, Mohammad Abu Dawood of National People’s Party (NPP) and Mohammad Afzal Hossain of Trinamool BNP.

Campaign posters of Workers’ Party’s Zakir Hussain are seen at some places, while no posters of Trinamool BNP’s Afzal Hussain are seen, but someone makes public announcements for him from a battery-operated auto-rickshaw. Neither any poster nor any public campaigning or ‘miking’ of other candidates is visible in the constituency.

People familiar with the local politics of Pabna-5 seat said that the victory of the Boat candidate is almost certain and all four rivals will have to struggle to save their deposits.

Responding to a question as to why he was not campaigning, Jatiya Party candidate in Parliament and Pabna district unit president Abdul Kader Khan said, “The Jatiya Party had decided to participate in the elections alone, but after They shared seats. , After that no specific instructions came. No financial assistance was also given. As a result, we cannot do anything and we are waiting for the party’s decision.
