Manchester United winger Antony was on Monday dropped from Brazil’s squad for upcoming World Cup qualifying games following an assault allegation by an ex-girlfriend.
The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) said in a statement that Antony had been removed from office to “protect the alleged victim, the player, the Brazilian team and the CBF”.
Arsenal forward Gabriel Jesus will replace Antony in the squad for the matches against Bolivia on 8 September and Peru on 12 September.
