Apart from this, businessmen will have to spend 16 percent extra on trade license, 114 percent on fire license and 12 percent extra on export and import registration license.
The research also revealed that renewing the trade license of any business under Dhaka City Corporation requires an additional expenditure of Rs 5,000 to Rs 9,000 compared to the prescribed fee.
100 percent of big companies, 68 percent of medium companies and 62 percent of small companies consider corruption as the number one problem. Meanwhile, 59 percent of the companies said that bribes have to be paid to get government contracts and licenses.
This means that government services cannot be availed without bribery. Not only businessmen but also the general public is its victim.
From driving license to birth registration certificate, nothing is obtained without bribe. To stop harassment, businessmen are talking about one-stop service and license renewal after five years, but this was not implemented.
