One and only Bangladeshi Medical University, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University on Thursday took possession of 3.83 acres of government land worth about Tk 163 crore to the north of the university. The piece of land opposite Betar Bhaban was handed over to the university authorities by the district administration, said a release.
The land ministry acquired the land in 1996 and handed it over to Rajdhani Unnayan Katripakkha, which
leased out the land to a private company for the construction of a five-star hotel but the ministry reclaimed the land as the company failed to construct the hotel.
In response to the BSMMU appeal, the government decided, following legal procedures, to allocate the land for 99 years for BSMMU for expansion of the university, the release said.
