Global K-pop sensation BTS said on Wednesday they will not submit their music for next year’s Grammy Awards, as the Recording Academy launched a new Asian pop category criticized for limiting the success of regional artists.

The South Korean megastar was widely tipped to be in the running for several top honors at the Grammys, including Album of the Year, as his comeback album, ARIRANG, became one of the year’s biggest-selling hits.

But the seven-member group said they would not enter the competition following the introduction of five new categories, including Best Asian Pop Music Performance.

“We have decided not to enter the GRAMMYs this year,” the BTS members said in a coordinated post on their individual Instagram accounts.
