BUET, DU cut figures in QS ranking on the basis of subjects

Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) and Dhaka University (DU) have registered major drop in the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings by Subject 2023 as compared to last year’s ranking.

The rankings published on Wednesday cover a total of 54 subjects across five broad subject areas including Arts and Humanities, Engineering and Technology, Life Sciences and Medicine, Natural Sciences and Social Sciences and Management.

From last year’s ranking of 185, BUET slipped to 335 in the engineering and technology sector. His overall score dropped to 64.4 out of 100 from the previous year’s 72.5. Dhaka University was ranked 332 in the region last year but failed to make it to the list of 530 universities in the world this year. 14 universities of India and six of Pakistan were included in this faculty.

The University of Dhaka was ranked 451-500 this time in the Faculty of Social Sciences and Management, down significantly from 203rd in the previous year’s ranking. Two other universities- North South University and BRAC University were ranked 298 and 451-500 last year. Both the institutes failed to find a place in this year’s ranking.

In last year’s ranking, DU was ranked 378 in the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, but this time it did not find any place.
