Fardeen had left home for the BUET hostel at Konapara in Demra on November 4, saying he would study with his friends for the exam the next day. As he did not attend the exam, his friends informed the family, who then lodged a general diary with the police in Rampura, where he was last seen.
Amatullah Bushra, Fardeen’s female friend and a student of a private university, said that he had dropped her there at night.
Fardeen’s family registered a murder case after his body was recovered from the river three days later and the police arrested him.
The forensic doctor who conducted the post-mortem said that Fardeen was murdered on the same night he went missing. The doctor said that he was also tortured before being killed.
The Detective Branch was given the charge of probing the case, while the RAB is conducting a shadow probe.
Investigators had earlier said that Fardeen might have been killed by drug smugglers at Chanpara in Roopganj, Narayanganj.
