Apart from this there are about 3500 shops in Noorjahan Market, Dhanmandi Hawkers Market, Nehar Bhawan Shopping Centre, Globe Super Market, Badruddoja Super Market, Noor Mansion Shopping Centre, Ismail Mansion Market, Suvastu Aroma Center Shopping Mall, Eastern Mallika and Chandrima Market. Were closed on Saturdays. Book shops in Neelkhet also remained closed.
Traders said traders in 42 markets in the region have lost about Tk 2.5 billion due to the shutdown. However, the shop owners association claimed that this figure should not be less than Rs 4 billion.
Dewan Aminul Islam, president of the Dhaka New Market Traders Association, said traders were ready to resume their business from Sunday.
Bangladesh Shop Owners Association has also expressed hope that except the burnt market, all other markets will be able to open on Sunday.
