According to the UNB report, the cabinet on Monday gave final approval to the draft Ansar Batallion Act, 2023, which makes death penalty the maximum punishment for various crimes including insurgency and incitement to insurgency.
The approval was given at a cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at her office in the city.
According to the proposed law, there will be two courts to try internal crimes of Ansar battalion members. Briefing reporters at the Bangladesh Secretariat on Monday, Cabinet Secretary Mohammad Mahbub Hussain said, one is the ‘Summary Ansar Battalion Court’ headed by the Additional Director and the other is the ‘Special Ansar Battalion Court’ headed by the Director General.
