Employment gains in construction (+23,000) and information, culture and entertainment (+21,000) were partially offset by declines in wholesale and retail trade (-22,000) and manufacturing (-19,000), the agency said.
Nearly two-thirds of those who were unemployed in September remained unemployed in October as well. This was a larger proportion than a year earlier, Statistics Canada said, indicating that “job seekers are experiencing greater difficulties finding employment than a year ago.”
