Canada’s unemployment rate rose to 5.7% in October: Statistics Canada

Employment gains in construction (+23,000) and information, culture and entertainment (+21,000) were partially offset by declines in wholesale and retail trade (-22,000) and manufacturing (-19,000), the agency said.

Nearly two-thirds of those who were unemployed in September remained unemployed in October as well. This was a larger proportion than a year earlier, Statistics Canada said, indicating that “job seekers are experiencing greater difficulties finding employment than a year ago.”
