It is important for me to work with the technical aspect and skills. I practice batting regularly. But when I play for a long time, taking a break of 8-10 days makes it easier for me to get back to where I was before. Practice is very important for me. I have to work hard. But I will not say that I will have to come to the field even during holidays like Mushfiq Bhai. I need that break. Running, gym, batting – I have a lot to do. Many people say that I am very fit. But for this I have to work and be very disciplined.

You captained the World Cup and then two matches in New Zealand. How many of these matches made you confident about captaincy?
He inspired me a lot. When I started practicing with the cricket ball, I did not think that I would become a captain. But, when I started understanding, started playing age-level cricket, then the desire to become the captain of Bangladesh arose. I was the captain of HP as well as the “A” team and even in the age level.
When I got a chance in the national team, it inspired me a lot. I felt bad after losing two matches in the World Cup, against two big teams, India and Australia. I captained in such a situation but could not win! Lost badly. Later we won the Test against New Zealand, then confidence arose.
After losing two matches in the World Cup, I was absolutely determined that I would do well in New Zealand. For the same confidence, I talked about victory in the press conference. I didn’t ask to say this. Many may not have believed it, but I said this with confidence. I said in the dressing room before that press conference, we are not here to play, we are here to win.
After those two defeats in the World Cup, I felt that we can create that atmosphere in the team against New Zealand. I was able to play competitive cricket in both the matches in New Zealand. We never thought about it on New Zealand soil. Very good experience.
