India’s Shubman Gill on Sunday said the hosts remain favorites to win the second Test as his century leaves England needing to chase a record target of 399 runs on the third day.
England, leading the five-match series 1-0, reached 67-1 at stumps after opener Ben Duckett was out for 28 in Visakhapatnam.
Left-handed batsman Duckett stitched an aggressive 50-run partnership with fellow opener Jack Crawley, who was still batting on 29, before Ravichandran Ashwin dismissed him for his 497th Test wicket.
Nightwatchman Rehan Ahmed, on nine, joined Crawley and England needed 332 runs to win.
Gill said, “Definitely happy but I left some runs there. We could have scored some more runs.”
“I think it is 70-30 at the moment. The morning session will be important. We have seen that there is moisture in the morning and that helps for the fast bowlers and spinners.”
