The port workers were protesting with four demands, including against leasing out the New Mooring Container Terminal (NCT). This movement was led by two coordinators – Humayun Kabir and Ibrahim Khokon.
Initially, the protest was organized under the banner of the port unit of Jatiyatabadi Shramik Dal, but later they started a tough movement under the banner of Chattogram Bandar Rokha Sangram Parishad.
From January 31, the organization observed a work stoppage of eight hours a day for three days for the first time. After this, the program continued continuously from last Tuesday.
The program was suspended for two days following a meeting with shipping advisors on Thursday. However, a strike was called again from Sunday, alleging punitive measures against the protesters, which was finally called off at 8:00 am on Monday.
