Chikungunya outbreak

Chikungunya is a dengue like viral disease, which is also transmitted by aedes mosquitoes. Symptoms of the disease resemble dengue. In this case one suffers from fever which lasts for two to five days and it is followed by pain of the joints and muscles, platelet count is not decreased like dengue and nausea with headache is a common symptom.

Though Chikungunya in not a killer disease, it abstains people from work, which especially affects labors.  In Bangladesh Chikungunya was first detected in 2008. IEDCR (Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research) identified 480 cases in 2011 and 2012.

Epidemiologists fear that a Chikungunya outbreak is likely. They are advising common people to make sure their houses are clean so that aedes mosquitoes do not get any chance to breed. Chikungunya is less complicated compared to dengue and Chikungunya patients are advised to take enough fluid during fever. This viral disease was first detected in Africa in 1952.
