A five-year-old was killed after being hit by a battery-powered rickshaw in front of her home in Dhaka’s Kamrangirchar this afternoon.
The deceased was identified as Jannati, daughter of Md Mostofa, from the Sylheti Bazar area in Kamrangirchar, police said.
Speaking to reporters, Nargis Akter, an aunt of the child, said a battery-run rickshaw hit Jannati while she was playing with other children in front of their house around 3:00pm.
The critically injured child was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared her dead, she added.
The rickshaw driver fled the scene immediately after the incident, said Nargis who rescued the child and brought to DMCH.
Inspector Md Faruk, in-charge of the DMCH police camp, confirmed the death and said the body has been kept at the hospital morgue.
He added that the matter has been reported to Kamrangirchar Police Station for further investigation.
