Interviews with local residents, teachers, students and parents revealed that from January to November, more than a hundred girls from three secondary schools and one madrassa of Bheduriya union have been made victims of child marriage.
These include 59 students of Bankerhat Cooperative Girls School, which include 8 students of class VI, 10 students of class VII, 12 students of class VIII, 14 students of class IX and 15 students of class X. Married at an early age.
It is also reported that 20 girl students of North Char Bheduria Secondary School and about 25 girls of Bankarhat Islamia Aalim Madrasa and Bankarhat Secondary School were married despite their young age.
Hadisur Rahman, headmaster of Bankhat Cooperative Girls School, said, “Parents living below the poverty line marry their daughters if they find suitable grooms. But we cannot know this in advance. They do not care about the law either. And neither do the students.” Don’t tell us.”
