Ghumdhum Union Parishad (UP) member Anwarul Islam said the children found the mortar shell while collecting firewood today (Thursday) afternoon. He put it in his sack and brought it to his home. Seeing the mortar shell, people assumed that it was unexploded. Later BGB members came and took it under their control. To avoid any danger, the mortar shell has been kept in a swamp away from any settlement.

Visiting the spot around 2:30 pm on Thursday revealed that there was a sentry post of Border Guard Bangladesh at the end of the road at Nayapara village, west of the Asian Highway. The mortar shell has been surrounded with red flags in a part of the swamp there. The four BGB members present there have ordered media persons and local people not to go near the mortar shell nor take any photographs.
